1 Perez, Lori From: Carolyn Magid <[email removed]> Sent: Monday, March 8, 2021 3:10 PM To: City Council; Clerk Subject: comment on policy orders on 3/8 Council agenda Dear Councilors, I am writing in support of two policy orders coming up in tonight’s meeting: PO 2021 #36: Task Force Transparency PO 2021#38: Shelter Wages I’ll be brief: TASK FORCE TRANSPARENCY: The proposal for this task force came as a result of very strong community interest in the future of public safety in Cambridge, and a concern that past police practices have not served all community members well. So it makes absolutely no sense to have a task force on “The Future of Public Safety in Cambridge” that is not fully transparent and accessible to the public for comment/participation. It is fundamentally undemocratic, excludes important voices, and further erodes trust. I urge you to support this policy order as written. SHELTER WAGES: $16.65 an hour is already a very low wage for shelter workers who are providing essential services to Cambridge and to its unhoused community. Shelter workers at Albany Street are equally deserving of a living wage as other shelter workers in Cambridge and should be paid the same wages. I urge you to support this policy order as written. Best regards, Carolyn Magid 71 Reed Street [phone removed]
