WHEREAS:
The Cambridge Rindge and Latin School (CRLS) Varsity Boys Baseball Team
made the entire Cambridge community proud with an exciting and historic 2026
season; and
WHEREAS:
The Falcons finished the regular season with an impressive 17–2 record and
captured their first Dual County League championship, marking a major milestone for
the program; and
WHEREAS:
The team made a historic run in the MIAA Division I Tournament, entering as the
No. 8 seed and advancing to the state semifinals for the first time in history; and
WHEREAS:
The Falcons defeated Natick, 10-8, in a thrilling match-up at St. Peter’s Field in
Cambridge, in which featured Joel Rojas-Cruz hitting a 2-run double hit in the 6th
inning followed by Pitcher Jasen Thomas closing out the pressure-packed game with
a spectacular high-wire performance; and
WHEREAS:
The Falcons next traveled to Monan Park in Dorchester, BC High’s home field, where
our boys secured the biggest upset of the tournament, knocking off top-seeded and
overall No. 1 BC High, 5-1, and sending CRLS to the Final Four; and
WHEREAS:
Players stepped up in enormous moments all season, including Dual County MVP
Oliver Henke, whose dominant pitching helped secure the quarterfinal win over BC
High, and Jasen Thomas, who delivered strong outings throughout the season,
including a five-inning, one-hit performance with seven strikeouts, and Stefan
Alexandrov, who pitched solid innings and made timely hits, including the game
winning hit against St. John’s Prep; and
WHEREAS:
The Falcons showed outstanding teamwork all season long, scoring 142 runs and
allowing just 58, proving themselves to be strong on both offense and defense; and
WHEREAS:
Team leaders Oliver Henke, Jasen Thomas, and Stefan Alexandrov helped set the
tone for the season with their leadership, dedication, and love of the game; and
WHEREAS:
Head Coach Robert Merrill and Assistant Coach Richard Beyer guided the team with
energy, commitment, and a deep belief in their players, helping build a culture of
confidence and resilience; and
WHEREAS:
This team brought the community together, inspired younger athletes, and showed
what hard work, teamwork, and belief in yourself can achieve; now therefore be it
RESOLVED:
That the City Council proudly congratulates the CRLS Baseball Team on its historic
2026 season and offers them our heartfelt thanks for representing Cambridge with
excellence and pride; and be it further
RESOLVED:
That the City Council recognizes the players, coaches, families, and supporters who
made this special season possible and celebrates the positive impact they’ve had
across the community; and be it further
RESOLVED:
That a suitably engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the Cambridge
Rindge and Latin School Baseball Team as an expression of the City’s pride and
admiration on behalf of the entire City Council.
