CAMBRIDGE CHARTER REVIEW COMMITTEE

The Cambridge City Charter is the City's constitution. It defines Cambridge's government structure, powers and functions. In Cambridge, the Charter explains the responsibilities of the City Council, City Manager, and School Committee and all other aspects of government, from how elections are run to who creates the budget. The Cambridge Charter was originally adopted by the voters in 1940 and hasn't been holistically reviewed in 60 years.

The City Manager serves under a contract, and all department heads report to the manager.
