City Manager Letter

In response to Awaiting Report Item Number 04-79, regarding a report on the number of dormitory beds Cambridge universities currently maintain in Cambridge, Assistant City Manager for Community Development Beth Rubenstein reports the following:

Since 1997, universities in Cambridge have submitted information on the number of dormitory beds as part of their annual Town Gown reports. Based on the reports submitted by Harvard University, Lesley University and MIT for 2003, these schools currently house 13,897 students in dormitories.

The 2003 figure for students housed in dormitories represents a 7% increase over the 12,977 students housed in dormitories in 1997, according to the Town Gown reports for that year.
