Councillor Decker, Vice Mayor Davis, Councillor Galluccio, Councillor Maher, Councillor Murphy, Councillor Reeves, Councillor Simmons, Mayor Sullivan, Councillor Toomey

WHEREAS: On February 1, 1999 the City Council adopted Resolution No. 44 declaring a housing emergency in the acute shortage of affordable housing in the City of Cambridge; and

WHEREAS: The availability of affordable rental housing is becoming increasingly scarce due to skyrocketing rents and condominium conversions, driving working class families from Cambridge; and

WHEREAS: Cambridge voters voted overwhelmingly in favor of the Community Preservation Act as a way to augment the Affordable Housing Trust Fund; now therefore be it

RESOLVED: That the City Council and City Manager continue funding the Affordable Housing Trust Fund from the city budget at a level not less than the current level of $4.5 million; and be it further

RESOLVED: That the City Council request the City Manger to direct the Community Development Department to make maximum use of CPA funds to develop affordable housing that is permanently affordable, such as limited equity cooperatives and condos.
