Attachments to Poles:
1. Attachments shall be made with proper hardware and shall only be attached with
non-corrosive metal clamps or brackets.
2. Banners attached to poles shall not exceed a total of 1800 square inches,
approximately 18 inches x 48 inches, 24 inches x 36 inches, 24 inches x 48,
or 30 inches x 60 inches. The actual size is subject to required clearances.
Banners cannot be attached to wood utility poles.
4. Banners shall have a minimum clearance of:
a. 16 feet over a roadway
b. 12 feet over a sidewalk
5. Banners shall not interfere with or obstruct, or otherwise block any roadway
signs, lighting, or traffic signals.
6. The City reserves the right to remove, or order to be removed any banner deemed
unsafe, not properly installed, or creating a hazard and the applicant may be
subject to costs.
7. An applicant must provide a description of the materials the banner is made of,
method of attachment, and means of installation (contractor name and contact
information).

Dear City Council of Cambridge,
On behalf of the MIT List Visual Arts Center, I am writing to apply for new banners on lamp posts:
• Ames St., Memorial Drive to Main St. (16 poles): 21, 19, M19, M17, M15, M13, M9, M7,
M5, M3, M1, M2, M4, M6, M8, M10
• Ames St., Main St. to Broadway (8 poles): 6, 4, 2, M41, M42, M44, M52, M54
• Broadway, Ames St. to Third St. (8 poles): M30, M26, M22, M18, M16, M12, M8, M4
• Third St., Broadway to Main St. (2 poles): M25, M23
• Main St., Third St. to Broadway (1 pole): M21
to direct students and public audiences to the new exhibition titled Symbionts at the
contemporary art museum at MIT. The banners will include our logo, the exhibition
information and photographs of exhibition artworks. We intend to attach the banners
September 1, 2022 and remove them mid February, 2023. Banner attachment/
removal will be facilitated by Heritage Flag Co.
