McGovern City Councillor Dear Madam Mayor, Madam Vice-Mayor and members of the City Council: The Healthy Children Task Force was founded in 1990 as a multidisciplinary coalition of elected officials, educators, health care experts, public health professionals, researchers, and parents to provide a forum for collaboratively addressing children's health issues. Since that time the Task Force has addressed issues pertaining to healthy eating, active living, childhood obesity, childhood trauma, and the school to prison pipeline. In addition, in 2019, the Task Force produced a parenting guide which addressed physical and mental health and child developmental benchmarks. This year we are focusing on parent education through hosting a series of events and discussions. We have already held talks on mental health during Covid-19, and the impact of social media on children. Our next event is on Wednesday, November 16th at 6:30 pm in the lecture hall at the main branch of the Cambridge Public Library titled: “Speak Up, Speak Out: a panel discussion on the lived experience of transgender and nonbinary youth, featuring members of SpeakOUT Boston.” This event will also be virtual. Please visit: bit.ly/SpeakUpOut for the virtual link. We hope that you can attend this event and share this information with your email lists. Thank you so much for your support, Marc McGovern Cambridge City Councillor Co-Chair of the Healthy Children Task Force
