Contral Square Business Improvement District Thursday, May 18, 2023 To The Honorable Cambridge City Council: Last time we wrote about a district-wide campaign, vaccines were just being rolled out. The BID's focus was on creating safe, outdoor spaces for residents to enjoy, including the 500 new outdoor seats on Mass Ave and Starlight Square. Two years later, those initiatives are part of Central Square's identity. Our new campaign, "In Central I Can," celebrates the Square's can-do, entrepreneurial spirit. This is a place of action and self-actualization, where people from all stations of life, across generations, go to make their dreams come true. Not just a commercial and cultural hub, Central is a place where anything is possible. You can grow old. Raise a family. Get married on Mass Ave. Be scouted as a model. Recover from addiction. Communicate with the cosmos. It's a place where people make it happen. Where shared values are reflected from one edge of the district to the other, from My Brother's Keeper to the Senior Center. We worked with Suhayl, a local BIPOC photographer and staff member at Mariposa Bakery, to take portraits, and with August Reed, a CRLS alum, to take video. As you'll see in the attached creative, generations of Central Square stories are represented. Our application proposes that the street pole banners have a flight period of mid-May to mid-October. The same campaign will be used on the Big Belly trash receptacles and in other visible places throughout the district. Please be in contact with any questions or concerns. Thank you in advance for your support. Nichue Waistene President, Central Square BID Centrai Square Business Improvement District 614 Massachusetts Avenue Cambridge, MA 02139 www.centralsq.org
