450 Massachusetts Avenue Cambridge, MA 02139 central [phone removed] (Box Office ext. 1) Epic Stories square CentralSquareTheater.Org Told Intimately theater ATTN: Cambridge City Council 795 Massachusetts Avenue Cambridge, MA 02139 The Honorable, Cambridge City Council, I am writing in support of Central Square Theater's application for light pole banners spanning the area of Essex to Sidney street for the time period of October 13 through December 10, 2023. Central Square Theater, like many of Central Square's local businesses, has been hit hard by the pandemic. We are now in the midst of building our business back, creating vital theater that will help encourage audiences to return to their Cambridge theater home. Our 2023-24 season has started strong, with the critically acclaimed production of Angels in America (Parts 1 & 2), which has seens audiences returning in pre-pandemic numbers. We plan to continue this strong start with our production of the Rocky Horror Show, a cult classic, on the 50th anniversary of its original production in the West End of London. The Rocky Horror Show is true theater camp, an over the top, musical that has inspired audiences to dress in costume and sing along (word for word) throughout the show. It is a joyous blending of gender fluidity, alien invasion and above all, the journey to find community and belonging. The play's non binary celebration of trans and LGBTQ++ folx reminds us of why it was created in the beginning, and why its message of belonging is especially important today, when trans medical rights are being challenged in courts around the country. CST's Rocky Horror is a uniquely Central Square production, designed to be authentic, joyous and most of all to display the welcoming culture of our Cambridge neighborhood. This is CST's first foray into the use of light pole banners and we hope to continue this institutional marketing practice in future productions. Our marketing campaign will include short videos, social media posts, email campaigns and postcards and posters. Thank you for your consideration and please feel free to contact me with any questions. Best, Cottimulenkelf Catherine Carr Kelly, Executive Director Central Square Theater
