City of Cambridge O-20 Original Order IN CITY COUNCIL April 4, 2016 COUNCILLOR MAZEN VICE MAYOR MCGOVERN WHEREAS: Senate Bill 1022, which is presently waiting to be heard by the Massachusetts Senate, would allow municipalities in Massachusetts to set their own minimum wage without contest; and WHEREAS: The current statewide minimum wage of $10.00 per hour is only two-thirds of the current Cambridge Living Wage standard of $15.04 per hour; and WHEREAS: The Cambridge City Council has expressed its concern about low wages in Cambridge and their detrimental impact on the city’s residents; and WHEREAS: State Senate Bill S. 1022 would give the City of Cambridge the ability to address the issue of low wages in Cambridge by raising the current minimum wage in Cambridge, under direction of the Council; now therefore be it RESOLVED: That the City Council go on record in support of State Senate Bill S. 1022; and be it further ORDERED: That the City Clerk be and hereby is requested to forward a suitably engrossed copy of this resolution to the Cambridge Legislative Delegation and Senate President Stanley Rosenberg on behalf of the entire City Council.
