TRAFFIC, PARKING, + TRANSPORTATION BROOKE MCKENNA, COMMISSIONER 344 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02139 MEMORANDUM To: Yi-An Huang, City Manager From: Brooke McKenna Transportation Commissioner, Traffic, Parking, + Transportation Department Jeffrey R. Parenti, PE, PTOE, PTP, ENV SP Assistant Commissioner /Traffic Director Date: September 11, 2024 Subject: Awaiting Report No. 24-041: Work with the City of Somerville to address the parking signage on Seven Pines Avenue ___________________________________________________________________________ In response to Awaiting Report No. 24-041 of 8/5/24 requesting that we work with the City of Somerville to address parking signage on Seven Pines Avenue, we report the following: The Cambridge/Somerville line crosses Seven Pines Avenue at a very sharp angle, which is confusing for some residents because it results in an asymmetrical divide in parking jurisdiction on opposing sides of the street. Staff visited the street to assess the placement of signs and to determine if changes to signage would improve clarity. While both City of Cambridge and City of Somerville parking signs include the name of the City, locations near the city line can benefit from additional emphasis on the City name. To this end, we will be adding additional signage that prominently displays “Cambridge Resident Parking” on Seven Pines Avenue. In addition, we will identify similar locations along the City line and install similar signage there as well.
