City of Cambridge O- ORIGINAL ORDER IN CITY COUNCIL January 30, 2017 COUNCILLOR MAZEN VICE MAYOR MCGOVERN WHEREAS: The President has issued an executive order on Friday, January 27th 2017 banning nationals of seven Muslim-majority countries including Syria, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen; and WHEREAS: Several federal judges have issued a stay on the order and it will likely be ruled unconstitutional; and WHEREAS: Cambridge is a city that takes pride in all residents and its diverse immigrant population many of whom have come to Cambridge from the seven named countries; now therefore be it ORDERED: That the City Council recognizes this as first step in the President’s campaign promise to enact a Muslim ban; and be it further ORDERED: That the City Council go on record as opposed to this executive order; and be it further ORDERED: That the City Council will continue to oppose future executive orders violating the constitutional rights of Muslims.
