Concerning the new bike path at Fresh Pond Reservation.
As a member of the Friends of Fresh Pond Reservation, I am here to express
my support for Policy Order #11, asking the mayor to hold a special meeting
to discuss a new bike path to be located within the Reservation.
This new one-quarter mile path from the Concord Avenue-Fresh Pond
Parkway Rotary south toward Huron Avenue will offer a shaded alternative.
for cyclists and will help ease congestion on the current multi-use paved
sidewalk closest to the Parkway. The new path will be on Fresh Pond
Reservation itself. Since the Reservation closes at sundown, ecologically
sensitive lighting is needed to preserve nocturnal conditions for the plants,
birds and animals residing within the Reservation. A meeting on the topic
of the new bike path could include a discussion of lighting alternatives.
