.....• Lopez, Donna From: Marks, Nisa (HOU) < Nisa.Marks@mahouse.gov> Sent: Thursday, February 8, 2018 5:03 PM To: Clerk Co: Provost, Denise - Rep. (HOU) Subject: tenants right of first refusal bill Hi, Rep. Provost asked that I reach out to you to pass this message along to members of the City Council. Thank you. Rep. Provost asked that I let you know the unfortunate news that H.3017, An Act to preserve affordable housing through a local option tenant's right to purchase, did not make it out of the Housing Committee favorably. On behalf of everyone fighting to stay in their homes, she sends many thanks for the Council's resolution of support passed last Monday. Although the Housing Committee gave a great deal of time and attention to the bill throughout the year, and although aftordable housing is such a crisis locally, there is as you know significant opposition, and this was the first session we introduced the bill. We made good progress and look forward to continuing to work on the issue, including in support of Somerville's stated intention to proceed with a home rule petition to effectuate the goals of the bill at a municipal level. That may be a tactic Cambridge wishes to consider as well. Our office is happy to talk with any member of the Council in more detail. Again, thanks for the support, and we look forward to continuing to fight against displacement, with all its impacts on our communities. Thank you, Nisa Marks, Legisiative Aide On behalf of State Representative Denise Provost 27* Middlesex District Room 473-B, State House Boston, MA 02133 [phone removed] phone [phone removed] fax
