City of Cambridge O-12 ORIGINAL ORDER IN CITY COUNCIL March 19, 2018 COUNCILLOR KELLEY COUNCILLOR TOOMEY VICE MAYOR DEVEREUX WHEREAS: The 155-acre Fresh Pond Reservoir is a vital part of the drinking water supply system for the residents and businesses of Cambridge; and WHEREAS: Fresh Pond is a low-lying area with a high risk for flood-related contamination; and WHEREAS: One of the infrastructure recommendations for building a resilient city in the report of the 2017 Mayor’s Special Advisory Committee on Neighborhood-Based Resiliency is to budget, design, build and install a removable flood barrier(s) to span any low-lying gaps between Alewife Brook and Fresh Pond to keep flood water from getting into Fresh Pond; and WHEREAS: Other cities are completing comparable projects, and possible models exist at the National Mall by the Washington Monument and by the Brooklyn waterfront; now therefore be it ORDERED: That the City Manager be and hereby is requested to have a funding plan in place to develop and implement protective barriers for Fresh Pond for the FY2018-19 budget.
