McGovern, Mayor Date: May 3, 2018 Subject: Communicating Highlights from School Committee Meeting May 1, 2018 To the Honorable, the City Council: Please find highlights from Tuesday, May 1" School Committee Meeting • Instructional & Professional Time Report: Joint Labor Management Co-Chairs: Dr. Anda Adams, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction Dan Monahan, President CEA. Overview and findings of Joint Labor Management group charged with making recommendations related to instructional and professional time. • Vision: ensure that teachers and students have time to teach and learn through rigorous, joyful culturally responsive learning Goal Criteria: includes student and educator time, schedules that respect needs of staff students, families, and community for time outside of school, alignment to the CPSD District Plan and financially feasible and sustainable. Process/Timeline: stakeholder engagement Spring-Summer 2018including ongoing analysis and development of recommendations back to School Committee Fall 2018, Recommendation from Superintendent and Vote Winter 2019, Bargaining and Planning 2019-20, goal implementation SY 2020-21. • Additional motions/topics: • School Committee on record as supportive of the Parent Summit scheduled for Saturday, May 12, 2018 held at the Fletcher Maynard Anatomy. • School Committee motions involving MBTA services at CRLS: including moving forward hat coordination and collaboration with the City Manager's office for implementation of an MBTA pass subsidy and confirming data of changes that could be made to MBTA routes and frequency that would more equitably serve CRLS students.
