City of Cambridge O-5 ORIGINAL ORDER IN CITY COUNCIL May 7, 2018 COUNCILLOR MALLON COUNCILLOR SIDDIQUI WHEREAS: Inman Square is a major business district not served by the MBTA subway line and has limited parking options for business owners and staff; and WHEREAS: The reduction of parking spots in Inman Square makes it even more important to prioritize the already limited number of metered spots for business patrons; and WHEREAS: A lack of adequate parking, especially for employees, has been a major concern and added operating expense for Inman Square business owners, and securing adequate parking is a way the City of Cambridge can help small businesses to reduce costs of interacting with the City; now therefore be it ORDERED: That the City Manager be and hereby is requested to work with the Traffic, Parking and Transportation Department to develop a small business parking pilot that would allow temporary on-street employee parking during typical daytime operating hours. Variables to be considered may be: • A limit on the number of passes issued per business • Limiting the hours passes are valid to normal business operating hours, such as between 8:00 am-6:00 pm • Disallowing parking on certain streets that are already congested • A way to ensure that the pass is being used by the business/employee it was issued to; and be it further ORDERED: That the City Manager be and hereby is requested to report back to the Council in a timely manner.
