Lopez, Donna ATTACHMENTC From: Trudi Goodman <[email removed]> Sent: Monday, August 6, 2018 5:04 PN To: _opez, Donna Subject: The shootings near Inman Square. Hi Craig: I wish I could come Tomorrow, but I can't. Thank you for reaching out to me. I live in the inman Square Area. There have been several armed holdups here. And a young giri was murdered by being thrown off her bike, recently. This is unusual for this area. I've live here almost 40 years. Periodically there have been muggings on Broadway near MIT, or near Windsor Street. That's all. That's not okay of course. There has also been an increase in house break-ins between Inman Square Cambridge and Beacon Street in Somerville. Although, I rent and don't own, this also concerns me. It seems to me that a police foot patrol at night would help with the street holdups, since most of this is happening at night. Descriptions of the assailants are that they are 2 young Black men in their teens to twenties with a gun. As a woman who is multiracial, l am particularly concerned about this. These two men need to be caught. Otherwise other young men of color in this neighborhood might be put at risk being •viewed as the two gunmen. As for the housebreaks, they seem to be happening in the early to late afternoon. The descriptions of the burglars are similar, so it might again, be these two young men of color. All in all, since inman is so close to Somerville, I believe that an interface between Cambridge and Somerville Police would be helpful. As I say, l've lived in this area almost 40 years. This kind of crime in this area is basically unusual. Probably some of it has to do with the economic shift in this area from primarily working class to higher incomes. There has been a ton of increased luxury development going on here. And increased condo conversion. These criminals probably view this area as better pickings now. This is truly sad and very scary for the local residents here. Please keep me in the loop, as to developments in this issue. Thanks for contacting me.
