City of Cambridge O-3 IN CITY COUNCIL October 29, 2018 COUNCILLOR SIMMONS VICE MAYOR DEVEREUX MAYOR MCGOVERN COUNCILLOR SIDDIQUI WHEREAS: On July 30, 2012, the City Council adopted a Policy Order asking the City Manager to determine whether unisex bathrooms could be installed in City Hall, or whether existing bathrooms could be modified into unisex bathrooms; and WHEREAS: This Policy Order followed the 2012 adoption of a city-wide policy to encourage the establishment of gender-neutral bathrooms throughout the City wherever and whenever possible; and WHEREAS: Despite the fact that the City Council went on record asking for the establishment of gender neutral facilities in City Hall, this has not yet happened; and WHEREAS: The need to ensure that members of the public, regardless of their gender, are granted access to safe, clean public bathroom facilities continues to be needed throughout this community, including when people come to City Hall to conduct official business, and the City should revisit this issue to determine whether City Hall can lead by example; now therefore be it ORDERED: That the City Manager be and hereby is requested to confer with the appropriate City staff to determine whether unisex bathrooms can be installed in City Hall, or whether existing bathrooms could be modified into unisex bathrooms, and to report back to the City Council on this matter in a timely manner.
