City of Cambridge Department of Public Works Owen O'Riordan, Commissioner 147 Hampshire Street Cambridge, MA 02139 theworks@cambridgema.gov Voice: [phone removed] TDD: [phone removed] February 5, 2018 To: Louis DePasquale City Manager From: Katherine F Watkins City Engineer Re: Awaiting Report 18-124, dated November 19, 2018 regarding construction vehicle parking on Gore Street and potential use of Twin City Plaza In response to the above referenced awaiting report, please be advised that both DivcoWest and City staff have reached out to the owner of Twin City Plaza, Regency Centers, to determine if parking spaces could be made available to the contractor. Unfortunately, Regency Centers is unable to provide parking spaces due to their leasing commitments and usage patterns of the parking by their office and retail tenants. With the completion of the Eversource Gas work in Cambridge, the overall construction activity and demand for parking has been reduced. The sewer work is on-going and will continue through late spring in Cambridge, with the work in Somerville continuing through late June. The contractor is minimizing the overnight setup and impact on parking spaces, although some materials and equipment need to remain on site in order for work to proceed in a timely manner. Much of the equipment is kept in the immediate area of work. The City and DivcoWest have worked together to provide alternative parking for residents that are impacted by the construction. The City has reduced the fees for monthly parking in the City’s First Street Garage for residents impacted by the construction (to the wintertime $50 per month rate) and DivcoWest has paid the monthly fees. To date, 25 residents have enrolled in the program. Gore Street residents wanting to park in the First Street garage can contact CSL Consulting at [email removed] or by phone at [phone removed].
