Congratulations to Janet Steinmayer on being named Lesley University's seventh president

WHEREAS:
It has come to the attention of the City Council that Janet L. Steinmayer has been
named Lesley University’s seventh president, effective July 1, 2019; and
WHEREAS:
Janet Steinmayer is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College and the University of Chicago
Law School, and enjoys a longtime association and familiarity with Lesley University,
as both a 10-year member of the Board of Trustees and the parent of a Lesley alumnus;
and
WHEREAS:
Janet’s educational leadership has also included service on the Board of Trustees for
Bryn Mawr College for the past 15 years and service on the Board of Visitors of the
John F. Welch School of Business at Sacred Heart University, and throughout her
career she has held critical management roles with large organizations and
corporations, from general counsel to president and CEO; and
WHEREAS:
Janet is currently president of Mitchell College in New London, Connecticut, where
she led during a transformational period in which the college built a strong financial
foundation, clarified its distinct mission and developed a campus master plan that
illuminates the history of the campus and addresses the future; and
WHEREAS:
While president of Mitchell, Janet fostered and developed an ability-driven educational
experience and strong community partnerships to give students opportunities to learn
skills and abilities relevant to today’s workplace; and
WHEREAS:
Janet is uniquely qualified to lead Lesley into its next chapter and to spearhead the
implementation of the Lesley 2030 vision; now therefore be it
RESOLVED:
That the City Council go on record in congratulating and welcoming Janet L.
Steinmayer as Lesley’s next president; and be it further
RESOLVED:
That the City Clerk be and hereby is requested to forward a suitably engrossed copy of
this resolution to Janet L. Steinmayer on behalf of the entire City Council.
