That the City Council go on record congratulating and commending the hard work of the award recipients of the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce's 2019 Inspire Awards which celebrates the achievements of women leaders

City of Cambridge R-3 Original Resolution IN CITY COUNCIL May 13, 2019 COUNCILLOR TOOMEY WHEREAS: It has come to the attention of the City Council that the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce will be celebrating the achievements of women leaders at the 2019 Inspire Awards on May 15, 2019; and WHEREAS: The award recipients will be: Aine Hanly from Amgen, Dr. Carolyn Turk of Cambridge Public Schools, P.A. d’Arbeloff of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Erin Lanciani of Sage Therapeutics, Kelly Flynn of Takeda Pharmaceuticals, and Eva Martin Blythe of YWCA Cambridge; and WHREAS: Aine Haly from Amgen has worked tirelessly to introduce and integrate new technologies and innovative thinking to Amgen’s manufacturing process leading to more efficient and effective drug development; and WHEREAS: Under Aine’s leadership, Amgen’s Massachusetts facility has grown by several hundred staff members and she has been instrumental in creating a staff culture committed to success and delivering quality products for patients; and WHEREAS: Dr. Carolyn Turk has worked for the Cambridge School Department for over thirty years and has served on numerous boards and commissions always with the desire to advance equal access and quality education to all; and WHEREAS: Most recently, Carolyn has played an important role in the Pay Equity Commission of the City of Cambridge which worked towards the early adoption and implementation of Equal Pay for women and minority groups in the City of Cambridge; and WHEREAS: P.A. d’Arbeloff of MIT has had a wide range of professional and leadership experiences such as being a radio/television reporter and producer, the national press secretary for the “Tsongas for President” campaign, press secretary for three successful “Menino for Mayor” campaigns, a spokesperson for corporate and non- profit organizations, and the executive director of the Boston Public Library Foundation; and WHEREAS: Since September 2007, P.A. has been the Director of the Cambridge Science Festival and has done an exceptional job of growing the festival; and WHEREAS: Erin Lanciani as the Head of Human Resources and Organization Strategy for Sage Therapeutics, Erin has created a strong company culture and truly leads by example; and
WHEREAS: Erin was one of the first employees of Sage Therapeutics and has helped the company grow to be over six hundred people; and WHEREAS: Kelly Flynn of Takeda Pharmaceuticals has always answered the call to serve and has been an officer of the Central Square Business Association Board, the Cambridge Chamber Board, and organized her Takeda associates in various community service projects in Cambridge and beyond; and WHEREAS: Kelly has been raising funds for cancer research at Dana Farber for over a decade through the Pan-Mass challenge and has coached female runners to compete in the Boston Marathon, which she also completed herself; and WHEREAS: Eva Martin Blythe of YWCA Cambridge has been a leader in the Cambridge Community for many years and has been a strong advocate for social justice, racial justice, LBTQ+ rights, women rights, and many more; and WHEREAS: Under Eva’s leadership, YMCA Cambridge has been able to continue to grow and thrive and she has taken leadership roles in many strong programming efforts such as Girls Only Leadership Development, Stand Against Racism and many more; and WHEREAS: The event will feature Jeanette Clough, President and CEO of Mount Auburn Hospital as the Keynote Speaker; and WHEREAS: The contributions of all these outstanding women in our community make Cambridge a better place; now therefore be it RESOLVED: That the City Council go on record congratulating and commending the hard work of the award recipients and extending its best wishes to the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce for a successful Gala; and be it further RESOLVED: That the City Clerk be and hereby is requested to forward a suitably engrossed copies of this resolution to the award recipients and the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce on behalf of the entire City Council.
