Sacramento Field Off-Leash Hours Pilot Program About this petition June 10, 2019 To the City of Cambridge: We, the undersigned residents of Cambridge, Massachusetts, believe the city should initiate a Pilot Program for Off-Leash Hours at Sacramento Field. This request rests on a deeply felt and long- expressed community need. At a recent well-advertised and well-attended 90-minute community meeting, all but two residents present supported this request. This request also rests on a record of success: Off-Leash Hours programs at parks across the city have cultivated park stewardship, improved the condition of the parks, strengthened neighborhoods and neighborhood spirit, encouraged responsible use of the parks by dog owners, and increased the rate of dog licensing. Given the great success of these programs elsewhere in the city and the heartfelt community support for this proposal, we ask that the city institute a Pilot Program in Sacramento Field. Thank you very much for considering our petition. Page 2 of 14

Cambridge address: 35 Crescent St 71. Name: Carrie Murphy on 2019-06-12 20:30:42 Comments: We have two small children, a dog, and live one block from the park - our family supports the off-leash dog park hours. We would welcome a place, within walking distance, to let our friendly golden retriever run off-leash - otherwise we have to get in our car and drive to a dog-friendly park, thus increasing our carbon footprint. Cambridge address: 47 Sacramento St. , Unit 1, Cambridge, MA 72. Name: Kathryn Hencir on 2019-06-12 23:23:17 Comments: As a daily user of the off-leash shared park at Gore Street in East Cambridge, I have heard for years of the need for residents around the Sacramento Park area to have the same off-leash access. I urge the city to take this request seriously. Shared, off-leash dog spaces do increase community stewardship and create lasting care amongst neighbors. Cambridge address: 578 Cambridge Street 73. It is also a natural place for well-supervised dogs to play and romp. An early-morning off-hours program is entirely consistent with the many other uses of this public space. In fact, few places in the city better fit the objectives of the city's own priorities in establishing off-leash hours programs. Please, please institute this long-overdue program.
