Renaming the fleet maintenance area of the Ryan Garage in honor of Sydney Cox, former Master Mechanic at the Department of Public Works. The Department of Public Works would be very pleased to honor Sydney Cox by naming the fleet maintenance area of the Ryan building at Public Works “The Sydney James Cox Maintenance Facility” as requested in Council Order O-2, dated February 10, 2020. Sydney retired from the Department of Public Works in January 2020 after dedicating 45 years of his working life to the Department of Public Works and to the City of Cambridge. The intention at that time was to celebrate Syd’s remarkable contribution to the city at a ceremony during Public Works Week 2020 and to unveil a plaque at the entrance to the maintenance garage dedicated to him immediately before the annual cookout at DPW. Unfortunately, as a result of COVID-19 this year’s events, to include the dedication ceremony had to be cancelled. At this time, the Department would like to unveil the plaque in the fall of this year at a time suitable to Sydney and his family and to further celebrate his remarkable contribution during next year’s Public Works Week festivities.
