Reopening Plan Summary School Committee approved Superintendent’s recommendation to re-open schools 1. Staged Approach ○Sept 1: Staff planning, training ○Sept 8: Staff planning, training, & family conferences ○Sept 16: Students begin school with at home learning (three days) ○Sept 21: Students begin school (in-person or remote) with half days (four days) ○Sept 28: Students transition to full days (in-person four days) 2. Remote learning for all grades with family choice for in-person school (4 days/week): ○Preschool - 12th grade, all students in substantially separate special education programs ○Preschool - 12th grade, all students in sheltered English immersion programs ○Preschool - 1st grade, all students ○2nd - 3rd grade, limited capacity, prioritized for students with disabilities, English Language learners, former English language learners, and students experiencing homelessness 3 3. With Contingencies (see next slide) 4. Explore safe at-school opportunities for related services, academic support, and wraparound services, JK-12 5. Significant precautions to keep students, staff, and families safe and healthy, including preparing facilities, improving air quality, providing personal protective equipment, and employing hygiene practices to minimize transmission
Summary of Contingencies 1. Routine testing and surveillance testing plan for anyone returning to classrooms (with CPHD) 2. Frequent evaluation and adaptation of key metrics centered on equity and vulnerable populations disproportionately affected by COVID 19 3. Adoption of the safety and facilities manual and ensure there are no spaces used that do not meet guidelines/requirements 4. Vote is subject is change as the COVID-19 pandemic is fluid and changes to this reopening plan may be necessary at any point 4 5. Plan for scholars in substantially separate programs co-created by special educators, families of those in substantially separate classrooms, with the administration and Covid-19 Task Force experts as scholars and professionals in these rooms are at greater risk of Covid-19 and face the greatest challenges to remote and in person learning. 6. Discussion on childcare options for families and educators during remote learning (with the City Council, CDHS, and City of Cambridge) 7. Co-created social emotional learning, mental and behavioral health plan for all scholars developed by educators, staff, out of school time professionals, scholars and families for in person and remote learning.

6 Staged Approach to Reopening | Approved Stage 4: Full Days Preschool - Grade 5 Grades 6 - 8 Grades 9 - 12 Remote (at home) ● Students in substantially separate classrooms and Sheltered English Immersion: Any family who chooses ● Grades PK-1: Any family who chooses ● Grades 2-3: Any family who chooses or cannot be accommodated due to capacity ● Grades 4 - 5: All students ● Students in substantially separate classrooms: Any family who chooses ● Grades 6 - 8: All students ● Grades 9 - 12: All students In-person (at school) 4 days ● Students in substantially separate classrooms and Sheltered English Immersion: Any family who chooses ● Preschool, Grades Preschool,JK/ K, 1: any family that opts in ● Grades 2 and 3: ○ Two general education classrooms, per grade, per building (approximately 24 students total) ○ Seats prioritized for students experiencing homelessness, students with disabilities, English language learners, and former English language learners. ○ If seats remain, schools will identify students in most need of in-person instructional opportunities based on district-criteria. ● Students in substantially separate classrooms and Sheltered English Immersion students may have the option of in-person learning. ● Some related services for students with disabilities may be available for appointments on-site ● Students in substantially separate classrooms will have the option of in-person learning. ● Some related services for students with disabilities may be available for appointments on-site

With new color-coded metric from COVID Command, DESE is issuing additional guidance for selecting a learning model New color-coded metric* DESE expectation for learning model *Measured as a 14-day rolling average and will be reported weekly as part of the online DPH dashboard UNSHA DED Fewer than 5 total cases over the past 14 days. Generally, this is for communities with small populations and very few cases.
