COUNCILLOR SIMMONS
WHEREAS:
Erinn Pearson has been a dedicated business owner and a lifelong resident of
Cambridge, where she has spent decades forming tight relationships with her clients
and the broader community; and
WHEREAS:
Erinn Pearson established Simply Erinn's Unisex Hair Salon in Cambridge in 2002,
and for 24 years has provided professional, personalized hair care excellence to
clients with all hair textures – offering every visit a personalized consultation, expert
hair and scalp analysis, a custom treatment plan, and at-home care guidance, earning
the salon its reputation as "The Secret to Extraordinary Hair"; and
WHEREAS:
Erinn Pearson, as a Licensed Master Barber since 1990 and a Licensed Cosmetologist
since 1999, has brought a wealth of knowledge and continuous study to the salon
culture at Simply Erinn's; and
WHEREAS:
Erinn Pearson has received numerous awards and accolades in recognition of her
outstanding contributions to her craft and her community, including being named
"Best Ethnic Salon" in the Improper Boston in 2009, being recognized by the Boston
Globe for Domestic Violence Awareness efforts in 2009, being highlighted by the
Baystate Banner as an outstanding business owner in 2015, named one of YWCA
Cambridge's Outstanding Women in 2015, being chosen as a finalist for the "Thrive"
award in 2015, being named the national winner of the Barbershop: The Next Cut
Challenge – a $20,000 makeover sponsored by Warner Brothers – in 2016, and more
recently being honored with the BICA Growth Builders Award in 2022, the Black Biz
Ball Kuumba Award in 2023, and the GBOS Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024;
and
WHEREAS:
Erinn Pearson is passionately committed to training the next generation of stylists and
continuously works with newly-graduated stylists from local schools to mentor them
in the professional standards and practices of the industry; and
WHEREAS:
Erinn Pearson remains deeply committed to all aspects of women's health, including
her important work with the "Cut it Out" project, which offers a front-line defense
against domestic violence, and through Simply Erinn's Unisex Hair Salon, which
hosts monthly Community Conversations for Women of Color called "Sister to
Sister" – led by professional healthcare practitioners of color; now therefore be it
RESOLVED:
That the City Council go on record congratulating Erinn Pearson on the 24th
anniversary of Simply Erinn's Unisex Hair Salon and in recognizing her invaluable
and enduring contributions to the Cambridge community; and be it further
RESOLVED:
That the City Clerk be and hereby is requested to forward a suitably engrossed copy
of this resolution to Erinn Pearson on behalf of the entire City Council.
