That the Cambridge City Council go on record congratulating Transition House on the occasion of its 50th anniversary and extending its deepest gratitude for five decades of leadership and service to survivors of domestic violence and their families.

MAYOR SIDDIQUI
WHEREAS:
Transition House is celebrating 50 years of providing safety, support, advocacy, and
hope to survivors of domestic violence and their families in Cambridge and
throughout the region; and
WHEREAS:
Founded in Cambridge in 1976, Transition House was the first domestic violence
shelter on the East Coast; and
WHEREAS:
Transition House has provided emergency shelter, housing assistance, advocacy,
prevention programs, and supportive services that have empowered thousands of
survivors and their children to build lives free from violence; and
WHEREAS:
Transition House has remained steadfast in its commitment to social justice, dignity,
and safety, while continuing to evolve its programs to meet the changing needs of
survivors and the broader community; and
WHEREAS:
The dedicated staff, volunteers, board members, advocates, and supporters of
Transition House have demonstrated extraordinary compassion, leadership, and
perseverance in the service of others; and
WHEREAS:
Transition House has played a vital role in Cambridge's network of care, partnering
with residents, community organizations, and public agencies to advance awareness,
prevention, and healing, and pioneered a movement that transformed how
communities respond to domestic violence; and
WHEREAS:
The City of Cambridge is proud to recognize the profound and lasting impact
Transition House has had on generations of individuals and families seeking safety,
stability, and opportunity; now therefore be it
RESOLVED:
That the Cambridge City Council go on record congratulating Transition House on
the occasion of its 50th anniversary and extending its deepest gratitude for five
decades of leadership and service to survivors of domestic violence and their families;
and be it further
RESOLVED:
That the City Clerk be and hereby is requested to forward a suitably engrossed copy
of this resolution to Sarah Gyorog, the Executive Director of Transition House on
behalf of the entire City Council.
