Resolution thanking organizers of the 2026 Dance Party.

RES 2026-102 FIRST IN COUNCIL August 3, 2026 City of Cambridge COUNCILLOR SIMMONS WHEREAS: On Friday, June 26, 2026, the City of Cambridge hosted the 2026 Cambridge Dance Party in Central Square, bringing together residents, families, visitors, local businesses, performers, and community partners for an evening of music, dancing, joy, and civic celebration; and WHEREAS: The Cambridge Dance Party has become one of the City’s most beloved public traditions, transforming Central Square into a vibrant gathering place and showcasing Cambridge at its most energetic, creative, inclusive, and community-minded; and WHEREAS: Events of this scale require months of careful planning, coordination, logistics, outreach, public safety preparation, street operations, cleanup, and on-the-ground execution by City staff across multiple departments and offices; and WHEREAS: The success of the 2026 Cambridge Dance Party was made possible through the dedicated work of City staff, community partners, performers, vendors, public safety personnel, and volunteers who helped ensure that the event was safe, welcoming, well-organized, and enjoyable for all; and WHEREAS: The Council also wishes to express special gratitude to the staff of the Department of Public Works, whose behind-the-scenes and on-the-ground efforts before, during, and after the event were essential to making the Dance Party possible and ensuring that Central Square was restored quickly and responsibly following the celebration; now therefore be it RESOLVED: That the City Council go on record thanking all City staff, departments, community partners, performers, vendors, volunteers, and public safety personnel who contributed to the planning and successful execution of the 2026 Cambridge Dance Party, with special thanks going to Michael Monestime and the Central Square BID, the Central Square BID ambassadors, the Cambridge Police Department, the Transportation Department, the Public Works Department, Jason Weeks and the Cambridge Arts Council, and Matt Nelson and Stacey Cooper in the City Manager’s Office for their outstanding service, professionalism, and commitment to making this year’s Dance Party a joyful and memorable celebration for the Cambridge community; and be it further RESOLVED: That the City Clerk be and hereby is requested to forward suitably engrossed copies of this resolution to the above-named parties and departments as an expression of gratitude on behalf of the entire City Council.
