Condolences to the family of Patricia Welbourn Lorsch.

RES 2026-111 FIRST IN COUNCIL August 3, 2026 City of Cambridge COUNCILLOR FLAHERTY WHEREAS: The City Council is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Patricia Welbourn Lorsch of Cambridge, on July 14, 2026; and WHEREAS: Patricia Lorsch was predeceased by her husband, Jay W. Lorsch, and is lovingly remembered by her children, Jonathan Hodgson and Lucinda Hodgson, her stepchildren, Jon Lorsch, David Lorsch, and Robin Lorsch Wildfang, as well as her 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; and WHEREAS: Patricia was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, graduated from McGill University, and though she later became an American citizen, she remained proudly Canadian at heart; and WHEREAS: Following her university studies, Patricia led a vibrant and distinguished career in television and print journalism, working in London, Paris, Kolkata, Montreal, and Toronto, bringing curiosity, creativity, and global perspective to her craft; and WHEREAS: Patricia made significant contributions to the Cambridge community, serving on the Board of Cambridge Family and Children’s Service, championing The Walk for Hunger throughout her life, and lending her experience and civic commitment as a member of President Barack Obama’s Advisory Committee for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts; and WHEREAS: Patricia was active in Democratic politics at both the state and national levels, including serving as a delegate to the 2016 Democratic National Convention, embodying a lifelong dedication to civic engagement and public service; and WHEREAS: Patricia’s warmth, intelligence, generosity, and commitment to the public good enriched the lives of her family, friends, colleagues, and the broader Cambridge community; now therefore be it RESOLVED: That the City Council go on record extending its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Patricia Welbourn Lorsch, and expresses profound gratitude for her many contributions to the civic, cultural, and humanitarian life of our city; and be it further RESOLVED: That the City Clerk be and hereby is requested to forward a suitably engrossed copy of this resolution to the family of Patricia Welbourn Lorsch on behalf of the entire City Council.
