CMA 2026-266 IN CITY COUNCIL September 14, 2026 To the Honorable, the City Council: I am writing to recommend the following appointments and reappointment to the Cambridge Commission for Persons with Disabilities (CCPD) for a term of three (3) years, effective September 14, 2026. - Munah Nagbe (appointment) - Cassondra Smith (appointment) - Danielle Jones McLaughlin (reappointment) Established in 1979 by Cambridge City Ordinance Chapter 2.96, the Cambridge Commission for Persons with Disabilities’ (CCPD) main goal is to make Cambridge a more welcoming and accessible place for people with all kinds of disabilities. Members must be residents of Cambridge, with the exception of appointed representatives from the Department of Public Works and the Department of Human Service Programs. Out of the eleven (11) members, at least half (1/2) must be individuals with disabilities. Other members can be family members of people with disabilities, relevant professionals, or individuals with a specific interest in disability rights and access issues. The City Manager’s Office posted a request for applications for the CCPD board on the city’s website and via a news release on April 15, 2026, with an initial closing date of May 18, 2026, which was later extended. During that time CCPD sent the notice out to our electronic newsletter recipients (about 1000 e- mail addresses), posted flyers in the Human Services Building at 51 Inman Street, and reached out to people who had inquired with us about board openings since the last application. The call for applicants was also posted in several of the city’s daily email updates. We received four applications, two of which didn’t specify an interest in disability issues. An interview team consisting of CCPD staff and a member of the board conducted virtual interviews with both remaining candidates. Appointment of these candidates would fill two (2) of our three (3) vacancies. We have re-opened our call for applicants, with a deadline of September 21, 2026. The next expiration date for a member’s term will be July 2027. Munah Nagbe is a passionate advocate and volunteer. With a background in hospitality and customer service, she blogs about life with a disability that may not always be evident.

Cassondra Smith is a social worker and the parent of three children, including one with a disability. She actively participates in the city’s accessibility improvement efforts, ensuring that the voices of individuals with disabilities are at the forefront of these initiatives. Danielle Jones McLaughlin has worked in several healthcare administrative positions. She self- identifies as a person with disabilities and is both the parent and sibling of individuals with disabilities. I am pleased to recommend these individuals, whose expertise and experience will enable them to be valuable members of CCPD.
