Condolences to the family of Timothy E. Murphy.

RES 2026-122 FIRST IN COUNCIL September 14, 2026 City of Cambridge COUNCILLOR SIMMONS WHEREAS: The City Council was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Timothy E. Murphy, a lifelong Cambridge resident and devoted member of the community, on August 25, 2026 at the age of 79; and WHEREAS: Timothy was born in North Cambridge on February 8, 1947, the son of the late Charles and Dorothy (Leccacorvi) Murphy, and throughout his life he remained deeply connected to the city and community he called home; and WHEREAS: Timothy dedicated many years of his life to educating young people as a teacher in the Cambridge Public Schools, sharing with generations of students his lifelong love of learning, curiosity, and enthusiasm for knowledge, while taking great pleasure in discovering new things and sharing what he learned with others, leaving a lasting impression on students, family members, friends, and all those fortunate enough to know him; and WHEREAS: Timothy was deeply devoted to his Catholic faith, which remained an important source of meaning and guidance throughout his life; and WHEREAS: Timothy was the beloved husband of the late Claire M. (Delaney) Murphy; the loving brother of Charles F. Murphy and Nancy E. Murphy, and of the late Thomas P. Murphy; and the cherished uncle and granduncle of many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews; and WHEREAS: Timothy will be remembered with great affection by his family, his many friends, his former students and colleagues, and the broader Cambridge community for his dedication to education, his faith, his warmth, and his lifelong commitment to learning; now therefore be it RESOLVED: That the City Council go on record extending its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Timothy E. Murphy for their tremendous loss; and be it further RESOLVED: That the City Clerk be and hereby is requested to forward a suitably engrossed copy of this resolution to the family of Timothy E. Murphy on behalf of the entire City Council.
