Where this comes from

Cambridge has kept its council record in four different systems since 1942. Each one covers a stretch of years, none of them joins to the next, and two are no longer online at all. This is the whole provenance of the site in one place.

The City Council

1942–2003 · the clerk's index. The City Clerk published an annual index volume listing every paper the council took up. Those volumes are transcribed into the docket: 99,576 actions, thousands of which the city never scanned. It counts actions, not meetings, because that is what the index records. Sections and numbering are the clerk's own and they change over the period.

– · the recovered record. The city's first online records database went offline; its own links now lead nowhere. This is rebuilt from what the Internet Archive captured, with a visible stub for every item known to have existed but not yet recovered. Coverage begins in April , so that first year is a partial one.

2014–2026 · the city's portals. The Open Meeting Portal, and PrimeGov from January 2026. Agendas, minutes, roll calls and attachments, fetched from the city's own systems.

The School Committee

A separate portal run by the district, not the city. Minutes back to 2019; earlier meetings sit on legacy pages that are not yet collected. Roll calls and attendance are parsed from the minutes themselves, and only rows the parser read cleanly, or a human confirmed, ever render.

Boards and commissions

Agendas and minutes from the city's portals, plus the Historical Commission's own publications listing for the conservation districts. Where a body's meetings are known but its minutes are not published, the meeting is listed on missing minutes rather than passed over.

What this site does not publish

Letters and comments from residents are indexed but never rendered in full: the record shows that a person wrote, not what they wrote at their own address. Student representatives on the School Committee appear as initials, with no name and no photograph. Executive session minutes are withheld by law until their purpose lapses, and are marked as withheld rather than missing.

Checking it

Every page carries a link to the same page on the city's own system, so any claim here can be read against the source. The accuracy audit samples pages and publishes the raw comparison; the link audit checks that every citation still resolves. Anything wrong can be reported as an issue.
