State Reopening Updates

Additional outdoor reopening (per Governor Baker) in Phase 4, Step 2 for some industries goes into effect today: Amusement parks and some other outdoor industries will be able to reopen at 50% capacity. Youth and adult amateur sports tournaments will be allowed for moderate and high risk sports. Road races and other outdoor organized amateur or professional group athletic events. Singing indoors with strict distancing requirements at performance venues, restaurants, event venues, and other businesses.

The City of Cambridge is remaining in Phase IV, Step 1 until

The Cambridge Pandemic

Collaborative (CPC) began administering vaccines in early January. ●As of May 8, 4,107 people had received at least one dose of (Moderna) or the single-shot (J&J) vaccine at City-run clinics. ●During the week of May 3–8, 445 single dose J&J vaccines were administered at the Reservoir Church and CambridgeSide vaccine clinics. 6

Citywide code red (calls, texts, email). Communications sent to the faith community, neighborhood associations, My Brother’s Keeper and NAACP, business community, especially restaurants. Notice to City employees and DHSP program participants, as well as employees of CambridgeSide. Flyers dropped off at CambridgeSide, Danehy Park, and other locations.

Behind the Numbers

Behind the numbers, there is a dedicated and trained staff that has responded to the pandemic with expertise, bravery, and compassion. I would like to honor one of them tonight by using the words submitted by CPHD staff to honor Shamsher in the Boston Globe: Shamsher Bam has been a public health nurse with CPHD for 16 years and has worked tirelessly and passionately to care for the Cambridge community. He has spearheaded City-run COVID-19 vaccine clinics, conducted an enormous amount of contact tracing for positive, cases, and continues to work in the health department’s TB clinic during the pandemic. Shamsher is as humble as they come -- a quiet and unknown hero. 10
