Dear Ms. Mathews,
I am writing today to express my support for the use of Community Preservation Act funds to erect a historical marker recognizing the contributions of Frederick Law Olmsted and Charles Eliot to Riverbend Park, as proposed by the People for Riverbend Park Trust.
I believe that such a marker is an appropriate and timely honor to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Frederick Law Olmsted, the founder of American landscape architecture by commemorating his role in the landscape design of Memorial Drive. Cambridge would join the City of Boston and the Town of Brookline in celebrating the Olmstead bicentennial.
I look forward to working with the Department of Conservation and Recreation, the City of Cambridge, the People for Riverbend Park Trustees, and the Cambridge Historic Commission to ensure that this is a successful project.
